The beads can become less effective over time due to wear and tear on the clay pipes, contact with chemicals, dirt, and oil from the fur and skin.
To maintain the clay pipes, it is recommended to soak them regularly in warm water only, with NO soap, both inside and out, to remove dirt and debris. Using abrasive substances or oils can cause the ceramic clay to break down and become more fragile.
To help remove dirt that may be inside the pipes, rotate them while rinsing under warm water. You can use a toothbrush if necessary. Sunlight is good for the EMs, so after washing, it is a good idea to place them in the sun to dry.
