About Us
Our Story
A sceptic, a dog, and a year without ticks.
Hi, I'm Lucie. EM Campers and Canines started not with a grand plan, but with a gift from a friend and a healthy dose of doubt.
We were in Portugal in our van with our dog when a friend handed us an EM collar and suggested we give it a try. Honestly? We were sceptical. How could a collar made with ceramic beads and no chemicals possibly keep ticks away? We'd been battling ticks for years, and nothing seemed to work reliably — not even the conventional chemical treatments.
But we were willing to try something different. Something natural.
A Year That Changed Everything
Twelve months later, we were convinced. Not a single tick. Not a single flea. Our dog was happy, we were relieved, and we'd quietly become believers in EM technology.
The only thing we wanted to change? The plastic. We wanted a collar that was as kind to the planet as it was to our dog. And being in Portugal, surrounded by cork oak forests, the answer was right in front of us.
We started making our own collars — hand-braided cork cord threaded with EM ceramic beads. And just like that, EM Campers and Canines was born.
Why Cork & EM Technology?
Cork isn't just beautiful — it's one of nature's most sustainable materials. Harvested from cork oak trees without harming them, it's renewable, biodegradable, naturally resistant to mould, and has its own inherent pest-deterring properties. Portugal's cork forests are some of the most biodiverse habitats in Europe, and every collar we make is a small celebration of that.
The EM ceramic beads work by emitting far infrared waves that disrupt ticks' ability to detect your pet as a host. No chemicals. No toxins. No harm to waterways, wildlife, or the wider ecosystem. Just a quiet, consistent, natural signal that says: not here.
Why It Matters Beyond Your Dog
We care deeply about the environment — not just as a brand value, but as people who spend a lot of time outdoors with our dog. Conventional flea and tick treatments have been shown to damage river ecosystems and harm wildlife, including songbirds. It's something that's been highlighted by scientists and even featured on BBC Springwatch with Dr Sean McCormack.
Choosing a chemical-free collar isn't just good for your pet — it's a small but meaningful choice for the rivers, the birds, and the world your dog runs through.
Where We Are Today

We're still in the van traveling round Europe following the sun, wintering in Portugal where it all began. Every collar is made with care, and every customer becomes part of a community of pet owners who believe that natural really can work.
We're not a big corporation. We're dog people who found something that worked, couldn't stop thinking about it, and decided to share it. We're sharing our own personal success story — and the stories of the many families around the world who've found the same tick-free results.
Thank you for being here. We hope our collars bring your dog the same peace of mind they've brought ours. 🐾
