How EM Collars work.

"EM∗ is a people-friendly and environmentally safe product of EMRO (EM Research Organization) that achieves synergistic effects by combining beneficial microorganisms which exist in nature, such as lactic acid bacteria, yeast and phototrophic bacteria.

It was developed by Professor Teruo Higa in 1982. EM∗ activates local and native microorganisms that live in soil and water and maximizes their natural power.

EM∗ brand represents a line of microbial products that are used in numerous fields including agriculture, animal husbandry, environmental purification and health care in more than 100 countries around the world. EM∗ is a trademark and a brand name owned by EMRO, and is used on a variety of products.

EM® is an acronym for Effective Microorganisms®., a brand name referring to a family of microbial-based products. These microorganisms are baked into special clay pipes which use beneficial microbes, creating a synergy among microorganisms and larger forms of life including insects and worms, pets and livestock, and people.

Ticks and other similar insects such as fleas, midges, and mosquitoes can be repelled naturally and effectively with EM® ceramic beads. These beads emit far infrared waves that make it difficult for ticks to detect your pet as a host. By disrupting their receptors, these waves create an environment that is unfavourable to ticks.

The repellent effect of these beads is always active because they release waves consistently in response to stimuli such as sunlight, water, heat, or movement. This consistency deters ticks from attaching themselves to the wearer.

Ticks are attracted to body heat, carbon dioxide, and certain scents, but EM® ceramic bead products can disrupt their senses with an unpleasant frequency. This makes them less likely to attach themselves to the person or animal wearing the product, which is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional tick repellents. These often contain chemicals that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment.

Using EM® Collars as a preventative measure against ticks can be advantageous for your pet. The collar repels ticks, making it less likely for them to bite your dog. Usually, the ticks quickly realise that this is not the host they were looking for, and they move on to other animals. Therefore, it is rare for pets that use these collars to be bitten by ticks. The few I have found over the years have not been attached.

Daily tick checks are crucial, regardless of the preventative method used. However, incorporating EM® Collars into your prevention routine can add an extra layer of protection by deterring ticks from latching onto your pet. By preventing tick bites altogether, EM® Collars minimise the chances of Lyme disease transmission. This is particularly important because Lyme disease can have serious health consequences for dogs and humans if left untreated. Moreover, using EM® Collars alongside other natural preventatives can provide comprehensive protection against ticks.

It is important to take good care of your collar to ensure that it continues to work effectively. The beads can become less effective over time due to wear and tear on the clay pipes, contact with chemicals, dirt, and oil from the skin. To maintain the clay pipes, it is recommended to soak them regularly in warm water only, with NO soap, both inside and out, to remove dirt and debris. Using abrasive substances or oils can cause the ceramic clay to break down and become more fragile. To help remove dirt that may be inside the pipes, rotate them while rinsing under warm water. You can use a toothbrush if necessary. Sunlight is good for the EMs, so after washing, it is a good idea to place them in the sun to dry.

Our Cork cord is resistant to mould and dries quickly. It is advisable to remove the collars during playtime as the pipes can break, especially during "mouthy" play. Since the EM pipes are made of ceramic, they are prone to breakage. However, we braid more than the required amount onto each collar to ensure that if a few pipes break, it will not affect the collar's effectiveness. Some owners have reported that their dogs lying on a hard surface like concrete or tile can cause the pipes to break; unfortunately, we have no control over this.

It is generally recommended to replace collars once a year. However, some collars may need to be replaced more frequently if there is extra wear and tear. On the other hand, some collars may be able to extend this period. The frequency of replacement is dependent on the dog's lifestyle. It is a good idea to replace collars with each "tick season".

It is crucial to keep in mind that it can take up to a month for the collars to reach their full effectiveness. This is especially important to note if you are using a collar for the first time. During this period, it is crucial to check daily and consider using additional natural preventatives. However, I have had customers report that they notice a reduction in ticks straight away.

These collars are effective for most pets and humans, but they may work better for some than others. During the high tick season, some users have found that they need to use additional natural preventatives. If you decide to use such preventatives that contain essential oils or chemicals, make sure they do not come in contact with the beads, as this can affect the effectiveness of the collar. Fortunately, most people have found that these EM collars also repel fleas. We have personally never had any flea issues with our dog since we started using these collars.

Please note that there is no guarantee that the natural products will work for your pet. As with any flea/tick product, veterinary or non-veterinary, I cannot provide any guarantee. However, many families worldwide have successfully used these products, as they have experienced no ticks or a significant reduction in tick numbers compared to other preventatives used before.

I am sharing my own personal success and testimonials from other pet parents who have achieved tick-free results from using EM® Collars.
